Handover ceremony of Berth No.1
The Minister of Works, Transport and Communications Eng. Isack Kamwelwe cuts a ribbon to symbolize the official hand over and launch of Berth No.1 at the Dar es Salaam Port . The event was attended by TPA Management and CHEC Officials (not in picture) on 11 June,2019.
The Contractor of Dar es Salaam Maritime Gateway Programme (DMGP) M/S China Harbours Engineering Company (CHEC) handed over Berth No.1 to the Government of Tanzania on 11 June 2019 at the colourful ceremony held at the Dar es Salaam Port.
The Minister of Works,Transport and Communications Eng. Isack Kamwelwe was handed over the Berth No. 1 in presence of TPA Management led by Acting Director General Eng. Phillip Witonde, Senior Government officials, and CHEC management.
The Minister Eng. Kamwelwe commended TPA and the Contractor for the work done while directing the parties to complete the project in agreed time while observing all critical matters as stipulated in the Contract. The completion of Berth No. 1 is part of an ongoing construction project of eight berths at the Port.
The completed Berth No.1 , having 191 metres width, and 14.5 metres depth is now operational.
" The completion of these berths means that the port is able to receive more and larger vessels. There are also enough equipment to handle more cargo," noted the Minister.
The project aims at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the port for the benefit of the country and land-linked economies.
